The Photographer

Welcome to my photography portfolio. I have been an avid hobbyist photographer for over 30 years, shooting prints, slides, and now digital. In addition to the usual family and travel photography genres, I have served as my extended family's visual historian by scanning, cataloging, restoring and printing old photos.
My father was a Korean War vet and USAF retiree, and his love of classic military aviation and history gave me a fascination with aircraft of all sorts. Once I could get the proper gear, I began photographing aircraft in flight, especially those at high altitude. I am always looking to the sky hoping to catch an interesting plane or contrail.
I became obsessed with birding in 2017. I am especially interested in photographing birds in flight, partly because of the aesthetics and partly because of the added technical challenges. I have photographed over 200 species of birds and am continually on the lookout for new species and for "best of" photographs.
I have traveled to dozens of ghost towns in Texas to photograph the abandoned buildings and other ruins. These trips off the main roads reveal the rich and vibrant history that ordinary Texans lived and created, and which deserves to be preserved and appreciated.
I am a music professor at Angelo State University, where I teach music theory and composition. Most of my birding is done in and around San Angelo and the Concho Valley, but I do occasionally make trips to central Texas and the Texas coast to seek out additional birding opportunities.
